The Telegraph: Sarah Beeny: Entrepreneurs benefit from adversity in life

Happily for the world of entertainment, property presenter Sarah Beeny has proven to be a better businesswoman and broadcaster than she ever was a cook. But having decided a career behind the scenes in the kitchen of a road-side diner wasn’t for her, her business sense surfaced and by 19 she’d begun her own small-scale property development business.

“I like gaps in the market,” she told entrepreneurs at a Charles Stanley event hosted at The Telegraph Media Group. “I like the idea that the harder you work, the more successful you might be. I never wanted to have the Sunday blues – for me it was more like ‘Damn, it’s two days until Monday again’.” She’s rarely looked back, building businesses and learning from experience.
